Michael Scott Jr. is a drummer, bandleader, and musician based in Stafford Springs, Connecticut whose musical journey has been shaped by both a deep love for jazz and a strong foundation of faith.

Known for his expressive playing and dedication to musical excellence, Michael continues to perform, collaborate, and lead musical projects that celebrate creativity, community, and the spirit of live music.

Biography

Michael Scott Jr. began his musical journey in Hartford, Connecticut, where he studied under the legendary saxophonist Jackie McLean at The Artist Collective. Being surrounded by Hartford’s rich jazz tradition helped cultivate his appreciation for improvisation, rhythm, and musical storytelling.

While attending Kingswood-Oxford School, Michael continued his studies under Dr. Wayne Pierce and Maestro Richard Chirrapa. At the encouragement of Jackie McLean, he later attended Duke University, where he studied under Professor Paul Jeffrey and performed as a drummer in Jeffrey’s ensemble.

Through these experiences, Michael developed a dynamic and thoughtful approach to drumming, blending technical skill with musical sensitivity. His playing reflects a deep respect for jazz tradition while also embracing fresh ideas and modern expression.

Over the years, Michael has continued to perform in a variety of musical settings, building connections with audiences through powerful live performances and meaningful musical collaboration.

Michael currently serves as a deacon and drummer at Stafford Baptist Church, where he contributes to worship services and supports the church’s music ministry.

His involvement in church ministry continues to shape his perspective on music, reminding him that rhythm and creativity can also be used as tools for encouragement, fellowship, and praise.
